Primary Purpose:

I am seeking an experienced and successful grant writer to write grants for my 501c3 organization focused on improving maternal-child health to support the development of an electrified infant warming blanket to reduce the morbidity and mortality of newborns related to hypothermia which results in the death of up to a million babies around the world each year.

Programming and Dollar Needs:

This organization has been organized to provide the benefits of a 501c3 for developing an infant warming device. There is a board of directors and the founder has led the effort to design and build the device. Other non-paid volunteers have also helped with different aspects of the development of the device including hardware and software development, construction and testing. The NGO has been supported by the Cornell REV Hardware and Manufacturing Incubators.

The immediate needs are to support the research by the Intertek Company to determine the regulatory requirements that must be met for the device to be used initially in Uganda and other parts of Africa. It will later be used in SE Asia and South America. The initial cost of Intertek consulting will be $7,200. Following the development of the prototype which is almost completed, a contract manufacturer will need to adapt the design for easy and efficient manufacturing which is estimated to cost $20,000. This will require several iterations and additional supplies and consulting of an electrical engineer which could cost an additional $20,000. Once multiple approved devices are made, clinical testing will be performed through support from additional grants.

Project Description:

Provide your hourly rate for research and locating grants for: 6 hours per week for 4 weeks. For a total of 24 hours.

This is flexible as I do not know how long this process could take.

Provide your hourly rate for writing curriculum for: 6 hours per week for 6 weeks. For a total of 36 hours.

The development of the infant warming blanket has been ongoing for a few years.

Provide your hourly rate for crowdfunding mentoring for: 8 hours per week for 8 weeks. For a total of 64 hours.

This is the first time that funding is being sought for this program.

I retired from the National Institutes of Health as a physician/scientist who received intramural grants of about $1,000,000/year. I have been a successful grant writing in the medical field but have not tried to obtain grants for my NGO.
