I am the medical director of a small nonprofit health clinic in Portland, OR. We were given a modest gift from a private foundation in order to get off of the ground, but I am now looking for ways to solidify some other funding sources such as grants. Since most of my focus has been on patient care, I feel as if grant writing is just beyond my reach at this time.

Our Health clinic is a nurse-led primary care clinic that operates inside a nonprofit parent organization. Although the parent organization is its own entity, it provides medical care (provided by a nurse and a nurse practitioner) to the residents of the nonprofit which are unsheltered men facing mental health and substance use challenges. Additionally, the organization has a relationship with The University of Portland School of Nursing- a small private Catholic university. Undergraduate and graduate nursing students complete necessary clinical hours at the nonprofit to satisfy curricular requirements in the areas of mental health and community health. Additionally, faculty members of the university are provided a time-release from their teaching schedule in order to deliver care in the role of a licensed nurse or advanced practice nurse (NP).
Our dollar needs are quite simple since the clinic space is already built out and furnished. Additionally, at this time there are no paid employees since nursing faculty members are released from the University of Portland to function as clinic providers. Dollars will be required to support equipment and supply needs, provide appropriate COVID response (testing for residents and PPE for staff). Also, since our residents are generally delivered to us directly from a state of being unsheltered or transitioning from treatment, funds that support reinstating some basic needs/functions ie. ID cards, prescription assistance, emergency dental needs are also needed.

Provide your hourly rate for research and locating grants for: 5 hours per month for 3 months.   For a total of 15 hours.

Funds have previously been received from private donors/foundations.
We are awaiting credentialing and enrollment from the Oregon Health Plan as well as other insurance companies so that we can bill for services rendered. The timing of this is likely to be in the first quarter of 2021. The credentialing and enrollment process has also been impacted by COVID causing a significant delay.

This will be our first time applying for grant funding.

The University of Portland School of Nursing has received at least two grants, one for palliative care and another for foot care, which will be applied to some of the efforts at the nonprofit, but these grants are managed by the university, not the orginazation.
