Primary Purpose:
We are a Kansas City based nonprofit community development corporation specializing in affordable housing development and home ownership promotion. Our staff is not experienced in writing grants. The organization was founded in 1974 and one of the two pilot organizations. We are no longer affiliated with them and therefore not eligible for affiliated grants. The grants offered tend to focus on human services, children and non-housing programs. We still think a home is key to personal economic recovery and prosperity. I believe a professional can organize the information faster and present the case for the award better than we can.
Programming and Dollar Needs:
We specialize in financial coaching for budgets, credit improvement, home ownership training. Over the last seven years we have trained over 1,000 prospective home buyers, with over 50% earning below $50,000 per year. We have a robust housing program that repairs the homes of eligible home owners, projects limited to $9,000 with the City's CDBG program, we completed 17 projects last year. This year we have 20 projects to complete in two neighborhoods. worth $200,000. During the recession, we acquired, rehabbed and sold over 85 homes to low and moderate-income buyers. We currently offer $10,000 down payment assistance to low and moderate income home buyers (with a special emphasis on veterans) through the FHLB of Topeka. NHSKC also owns a 16 unit affordable housing complex in Midtown KC. We recently began promoting estate planning for low to moderate-income residents to help protect family wealth.
We would like to request $50,000 for grant # 180369 to help us promote home ownership training and work one-to one with applicants for the minor home repair program. We see so many families in need of financial coaching to help make the right financial decisions and execute the proper administrative documents that will sustain family wealth.
Project Description:
Provide your hourly rate for research and locating grants for: 15 hours per month for 1 months.   For a total of 15 hours.

Current Revenue:
In the past, we generated close to $195,000 from banks supporting our community reinvestment activities, but now those funds have dwindled to a few contributors as banks are now encouraged to do more volunteer work in a variety of categories beyond housing. We have two contracts that generate administrative fees.

Our grants have declined over the years as the emphasis on housing has competition from children's services and animal welfare. we have to compete with different causes every year and are getting crowded out. we think the nation assumes the housing crisis is over with as the nation recovered from the Great Recession. Now we have a real crisis of affordable housing in Kansas City, Missouri especially as we had over 9,000 judicial evictions last year of low to moderate-income households.
